The cell nucleus is where the DNA of the cell is found. The nucleus is separated from the cytoplasm by the nuclear membrane (also called the nuclear envelope).

Like the cell membrane, the nucleus is surrounded by a membrane that can control the movement of molecules into and out of the nuclear material. The nuclear membrane dissolves prior to the chromosomes separating during cell division.
